Released on 8 January 2021 by Crimson Records UK, IAN HUNTER & MOTT THE HOOPLE – GOLD landed high on the British album charts on the first week of release. Astonishingly, it is the first compilation of their wonderful back catalogue to break into the Top 100 in the UK or the US national chart – the previous best was Rock and Roll Queen at #112 on Billboard, in 1974. It is a remarkable achievement as Crimson Records only has one format for their GOLD releases. As a 3CD set, Ian and the band is competing in a UK national chart full of artists with the added bonus of streaming, downloads and vinyl sales figures.
